Silence,
Being
quiet – to ourselves – is the greatest obstacle to experiencing our silence. Forget
about what all your so-called gurus or enlightened ones have said. Only when we speak
with ourselves, instead of to each other – because we finally acknowledge, that
talking with ourselves, is more important than talking with others – we can hear
our own voice, which provides access to who we really are and have always been.
The silence we experience by talking with ourselves is a blissful homecoming
that is unparalleled, since we are retracing the path, we have taken with our
sensitive, natural, effortless Embodied Language (EL), while we, unconsciously,
moved away from ourselves with our
Disembodied Language (DL).
During
EL, we let ourselves know – in our own simple, effective language – that we can
stop our long, disastrous history of conditioning of not listening to
ourselves, because we had never talked to ourselves, with the sole purpose, to
listen to ourselves. However, once we do this, consciously, and, to our own
surprise, with great pleasure and increasing motivation, it becomes clear to us
that, of course, there is no language, no words, no mind, sentences, no
thoughts, no ideas, no associations, no memories, no self, no experiences, no
concepts, no conversations, no soul, no instruction-providing, verbal agent of
our behavior inside of our body.
With
EL, we experience a mysterious silence, because it is crystal clear to us, our language
always arises and takes place exclusively outside our body. If we ever again
entertain the moronic idea, that there is someone within us, who has an
experience, we say out loud to ourselves what that experience is, then we
describe that experience as accurately as possible, and, then, by listening to
our voice, we realize that our language is outside of us and, then, that
experience quickly dissolves, because there is no one who experiences. There is
a new silence, an emptiness – being without language – that we could never access
with DL, our usual way of dealing with language. So-called thinking is an
outdated illusion that was created and maintained by our common way of
speaking, which we call DL, because we have no awareness of our body, while we
were doing it.
The
sound of our voice, which we hear during EL, does something to our body, as it is our
natural sound, which suits us completely. In DL, we were always producing a
voice, in which we could not relax and therefore everything we said was a form
of moving away from ourselves. Hearing and feeling our original voice, is an
experience that enables us to be done with our DL, which immediately stops.
As
we continue peacefully with our EL, we not only reason about what has happened
to us, but we also talk about what is yet to happen. Our new language is a
reinterpretation of who we have been, who we always were, who we are right now
and who we will always remain. The soothing sensation, that language does not
happen to us, but is used by us, as a free individual, makes us behave consciously.
Our EL changes all our other behavior. All the behavior that originated and was
associated with our DL comes to an end and the only behavior that remains, is
the behavior that suits us and that is caused, named and maintained by our EL.
In other words, our EL is a self-evident selection process, because one will witness
all of these behavioral changes.
EL,
which – when I first stumbled on it, while I was still living in the
Netherlands – I used to call the Language That Creates Space, makes us
experience silence as endless space. Every form of fear, tension, anxiety,
irritation, confusion or superstition comes to an end during EL. We can be completely
silent with our EL, because we enjoy this silence by talking to ourselves about
it again and again. Our language – our speaking, listening, writing and reading
– is put in its place, it exists only as an overt phenomenon. There is no inner language. This
realization has far-reaching consequences, which continue to encourage us,
every time our conditioning, with DL, comes into play, to let ourselves know, we
are inclined to believe in this fantasy, as we have not experienced EL before.
Now that we experience EL, that old conditioning history with DL, no longer has
a hold on us.
No
matter what it may be, that keeps presenting itself to us – all our problems
are repetitions of the same verbal nonsense – because we haven't talked to
ourselves about it enough, we can always talk to ourselves about whatever is in
our attention and conclude, that all our problems are a product of our DL, but
that our freedom is always regained again with our effortless EL. Even though
it is apparently necessary to lose and find back our EL, there is no reason for
this to take any longer than necessary. As soon as we change from DL to EL, we immediately
are aware of our Language Enlightenment (LE).
We
are never concerned with becoming happy or enlightened in the future, because
with EL we are - even though this is almost unbelievable at first - immediately
enlightened and fulfilled. Even though we may still lose ourselves in DL – because
of our old habit – our experience of our LE and EL is a fact, that can no
longer be taken away from us by DL. We have heard, felt, experienced, reasoned,
understood our EL and by enjoying it so much, we keep learning more and more. This
growing actually never ends. Our discovering, amazement and relief of the
letting go is superb. We know about tranquility without language. For us, the
silence is never broken, but always becoming richer and more expressive.
We anticipate
the future, as we still have the rest of our lives, to express the silence of
our LE with our EL and even if we only got around to it once, we know forever,
that this path is always open to us. In other words, confidence in ourselves,
in who we are with our EL, is our surrender to the inevitable silence that came
about, because we said everything to ourselves, that we wanted to say and could
say. This is how we go can into that blissful silence without language. And, this
gives our brains a rest, which was never possible before with our DL.
Silence always has the quality
of the situation in which it takes
place. During our DL, we
always face an oppressive,
ominous or icy wall of silence,
but with EL, every silence is a
blessing, a renewal and a
revelation. The silence of
EL is the glorious blossoming
of our intelligence and the
becoming available of energy
to create. Our productivity
increases exponentially and we
continuously predict, correctly,
the consequences of all our
actions. There are more
positive events ahead for us,
as we are leaving forever
behind all the conflicts,
confusion, frustration and
disappointments.
We
are, in our silence – as responsible individuals, experiencing the unity and
wholeness of, on the one hand, the behavior and the experiences, which are
leading to positive results, and, on the other hand, the conscious, skillful
use of our EL, which gives shape and meaning to our LE, to who we really are –
a transformation source, that processes everything with our EL and converts it
into happiness, love, understanding, beauty, relaxation and forgiveness. This
is not flowery language, as we really do this.
Because
of DL, everyone is in the same sinking boat and the only way to get out of our
imaginary, verbal prison is to focus on our language, to listen to what we might
say to ourselves. The silence invites us to go nowhere else but to our EL,
which always takes us somewhere, where we have not been before. In EL, you are
in a constant state of renewal and letting what comes come, is possible because
you have paid attention to what demanded your attention. It is we, as speakers,
who, with our EL, pay attention to everything that is important to us and we no
longer waste any energy or time by paying attention to what others try to get our
attention with.
The
silence of our LE – which can only be expressed with our EL – requires no one's
attention and makes us, as speakers, hilariously aware, that there is no
speaker, who speaks, there is no listener, who listens, there no writer, who
writes, there is no reader who reads and there is not an experiencer, who
experiences. In DL, however, each speaker, in various ways, is always trying to
dominate the listener's attention. This constant manipulation of the listener's
attention is always done with an acted, unnatural voice. Every DL speaker
pretends, he or she is loving, confident, open, committed, knowledgeable, calm, enthusiastic,
strong, impressive or unstoppable. Also, every DL speaker - to force every
listener to listen - will sound aggressive, holy, arrogant, intimidating,
humiliating, tragic, tiring or impatient.
Because
we don't know anything about the huge difference between our own DL and our own
EL, we are constantly being fooled by DL speakers and, yet, we accept this as
normal, because, supposedly, we know our place in the social hierarchy, which
allows us to get away our bombastic, DL. In our exhausting everyday social
interactions, we lose energy to people who take away our attention or our energy.
With EL, we speak with a different sound,
because there is no sense of a speaker speaking or a listener listening. In EL,
we produce the sound we want to listen to. Because the speaker is his own
listener, both the speaker and the listener disappear. This disappearance has
nothing to do with speaking without ego, but with speaking with listening (EL)
or speaking without listening (DL). During EL, the listener hears the speaker's
silence, because that speaker hears himself. Because the listener, in the
speaker, is not there, the illustrious listener in the listener is also not
there. This is why everyone with DL loses focus, the moment you briefly tell
them anything about your EL and your LE. They will always go straight back to their
conditioning with DL and only the silence of our knowledge, of our LE, makes us
stand firm and continue with our own EL.
